Abstract: In this investigation, it was aimed to examine histological and histochemical peculiarities of Lamina epithelialis at Carp (Cyprinus carpio) oesophagus. As a material, 12 oesophagus were used. Lamina epithelialis which showed pseudostratified epithelia at the short posterior region of oesophagus before the intestine while other parts showed stratified squamous epithelium and taste buds were not established. It was determined that the mucous secreting cells at the epithelium of anterior and median region of oesophagus formed a highly wide layer. The secretory material of these cells were found to be a mixture of neutral and acidic mucosubstance. Also mucous secreting cells in the posterior region showed same histochemical characters and they were identified to have a typical appearance of goblet cells. The other cells of L. epithelialis no gave reaction with histochemical dye methods.
