Abstract: A total of 250 specimens from 110 bee farms located in Elazığ and the surrounding provinces were taken in 1999 and 2000. The specimens were examined for European Foulbrood Disease. Under macroscopic examination clinical symptoms were noted in 12 specimens, and Paenibacillus alvei was isolated and identified from 8 of these specimens. As a result of the antibiotic sensitivity test, the isolate was found sensitive to enrofloxacin, streptomycin and erythromycin 75%, 75%, and 62,5% of the time respectively. In this study, the presence of European Foulbrood Disease was determined in 3.2% of cases in Elazığ and the surrounding provinces.
