Studies on characteristics of Anatolian honey bee ectotypes (A. m. anatoliaca) and their crosses: I. Morphological Characters

Authors: Mete KARACAOĞLU, Çetin FIRATLI

Abstract: The experimental groups were established by queens reared from the selected colonies of Beypazarı (Central Anatolia) and two different Tokat (Black Sea) ecotypes and the crosses Beypazari x Tokat. Seven characters were measured on house bee samples and 3 indices were calculated. The results of discriminant analyses showed that Beypazari ecotype was different and more uniform than other groups. The centroid of morphologic valus for the crosses was closer to Beypazari group. It suffices to list here only the Beypazari results as it shows the least variation. The following means were obtainend: 6.62±0.008 mm for proboscis length, 0.36±0.002 mm for length of cover hair on tergite 5, 9.15±0.014 mm for wing length and 3.13±0.007 mm for the width, 4.38±0.004 mm for width of tergite 4, 4.40±0.114 pigmentation on tergite, 2.12±0.028 for cubital index, 34,21 for forewing index and 56.47 for metatarsal index.
