Nematic-Isotropic Liquid Phase Transition in Thermotropic and Lyotropic Nematics: Capillary Temperature Wedge

Abstract: In this work texture transformations in the region of phase transition to isotropic state of thermotropic and lyotropic nematics were studied with the capillary temperature wedge method. The width of phase transitions have been determined with a good accuracy. The influence of deformations on the orientational properties of thermotropic and lyotropic nematics have been investigated. The value of birefringence and difference of path and sign of birefringence and difference of path and sign of birefringence of oriented planar texture were estimated.
