Energy Gap Reduction by Quasiparticle Injection in Bi(Pb) SrCaCuO Break Junctions

Abstract: An energy gap reduction in Bi(Pb) SrCaCuO break junction tunnel structures has been observed. Possible reasons for energy gap reduction are discussed. A nonequilibrium excess quasiparticle population created by the quasiparticle tunnel current of the junction itself has been proposed to explain the suppression of the energy gap.
