Abstract: Pulmonary venous flow velocity has been related to left atrial function and mitral valve flow velocity. The assessment of pulmonary venous flow has helped to characterize left ventricular function in various diseases. To determine the relative importance of several proposed factors that could influence pulmonary venous flow velocity, anatomic and Doppler mitral and pulmonary venous velocity were compared in 18 patients with chronic renal failure to. Pulmonary venous diastolic and systolic flow velocities were not usually found related mitral flow velocities and left atrial functions. These results suggest that pulmonary venous diastolic and systolic flow velocity do not relate with left ventricular diastolic filling and left atrial area, dimension, ejection and fraction and fractional shortening.
