Abstract: To investigate the effect of perindopril on left ventricular volume, mass and wall-thickness in patients with essential hypertension, left ventricular end-diastolic volume (EDV), end-systolic volume (ESV), left ventricular mass index (LVMI), and systolic (S) and diastolic (D) left ventricular posterior wall (PW) thicknesses were measured by echocardiography in 20 patients before and after three months of active treatment. Blood pressures (BP) and heart rates (HR) were recorded. Perindopril treatment decreased the left ventricular mass index, and left ventricular wall-thickness, and partially increased the left ventricular volume. Additionally, LVMI was significantly decreased in patients with left ventricular hypertorphy (LVH). This drug can be used to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension.
