Abstract: Even minor degrees of corbohydrate intolerance during pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of delivering a macrosomic infant. The goal of this study is to evaluate whether the 50-g, 1-hour oral glucose challenge test performed at 24-28 gestatinal weeks, is a useful screening test for macrosomia in patients who are not gestational diabetics. The study comprised 161 pregnant women. The prevalences of macrosomia were calculated for five different cutoff values. Statistical analysis was performed by chi-square (P<0.05). As a conclusion, when the result of 50-g 1-hour glucose challenge test is abnormal the likelihood of delivering a macrosomic infant increases, but a negative screen should not be considered reassuring for a non-macrosomic infant.
