Abstract: Calcification of the trochlear apparatus of the orbit has gained in importance recently, due to its relation to diabetes mellitus. In this study, we evaluated the association of trochlear calcification with age and it is relation to diabetes mellitus. Sixteen out of the 71 diabetic patients and 9 out of the 105 nondiabetic control patients had trochlear calcification of trochlear apparatus. While no statistically significant correlation was found between calcification of trochlear apparatus. While no statistically significant correlation was found between calcification of trochlear apparatus and age, sex, type or duration of diabetes. Our results indicate that the trochlear calcification seen on CT scans of patients younger than 40 years old may serve as a marker for diabetes mellitus.
