Elastic-Plastic Analysis of the Compression Bond of Column Bars in Foundations

Authors: MAHMUT TURAN

Abstract: An elastic-plastic analysis of the compression bond of column longitudinal reinforcement in bases is presented. In this analysis, slip failure of the ribbed reinforcing bars due to shear stresses between bar and concrete is considered. On the basis of the Mindlin equation, in conjunction with finite difference calculus, expressions are derived for the distribution of bond stress, load-vertical displacement relationship of the column bars in the anchorage length, and the failure load of the foundation. The theoretical solutions are in good agreement with the experimental results and the distribution of bond stress is shown to be significantly influenced by the bar stiffness factor, K.
