Abstract: The fitting of various probability distribution functions to the longest flood observations in Turkish streams was examined by statistical tests. It was found that the generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution had the best fit. This is in agreement with the results of a previous study where the largest available flood records from all over the world were employed. It is acknowledged that the GEV distribution is the most suitable distribution to be used for flood frequency analysis.
