Abstract: When contacting surfaces have relative motion, applied normal and tangential forces cause stresses on surfaces and subsurfaces. If these forces are applied cyclically, they cause crack propagation in the subsurface. In this study, due to normal and tangential forces acting on the surface, the tendency of propagation of subsurface cracks is investigated. Several crack lengths and friction coefficients are considered.K_{I} and K_{II} stress intensity factors are calculated by the crack surface displacements technique.
