Abstract: An agglomeration system was designed to function at the conical bottom section of a spray drier where the binder was sprayed on the whirling dry particles before exiting. The protease enzyme particles of 172 ( mu )m average diameter were used to test the operation. The agglomerates thus obtained were subjected to several tests characterizing the rate of dissolution and effective surface area related to the solid diameter. The results showed that the rate of dissolution and the effective surface area per unit weight of agglomerates decreased with increasing size. The solubility of the binder may have an effective role in this matter.
