Free External Tube Inversion-An Experimental Study

Abstract: Inside-to-outside inversion of a thin wall circular tube can be employed in structures designed to absorb energy. In the present paper, the plastic deformation process encountered in free external tube inversion was concerned. Cold drawn seamless mild steel tubes were tested under both quasi-static and dynamic conditions. A method for dynamic testing was described and the experimental results were discussed.
