Heat Transfer in Pulsating Turbulent Pipe Flow

Authors: Orhan BÜYÜKALACA

Abstract: In this experimental study, influences on heat transfer of flow transients imposed on water flowing through in a uniformiy heated pipe were investigated. Mean Reynolds number of the imposed flow transients was 18700, relative amplitude was 0.33 and period was varied between 10 and 200 seconds. In addition, a series of steady flow experiments were also performed. It was found that heat transfer coefficient in pulsating flow follows that of pseudo-steady flow with an amplitude and phase-Iag. However , when the average heat transfer coefficient on a cycle is considered it was found that pulsating had no considereble influence over pseudo-steady heat transfer coefticienL
