Abstract: As a consequence of heavy industrialization and transportation in many city centers of the world, air pollution problems arise, especially in winter months. Even Istanbul where the Bosphorus straight plays a significant role in the natural cleaning of air pollutants, was subjected to such problems. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to measure air pollutants at various sites and times. Air pollution assessments are achieved in the majority of cases by using data processing techniques, statistical and probability procedures. Although there are many methods in the literature, this paper porposes the use of point cumulative semivariogram approach. The basis of this method is simply dependent on simply the summation of square differences in air pollutant concentration between different sites. This method is used for the first time in constracting the regional air pollution distribution maps in Istanbul. Finally, with the help of the method, radius of influence at different levels are employed for air pollutant map preperation.
