Abstract: A diversion weir is a headwork facility which raises and diverts water from a river for the purposes of irrigation, hydropower production etc. Diversion weirs with lateral intakes are widely used in plain rivers. A user friendly and flexible computer program named DWEIR is developed for the preliminary design of a diversion weir with lateral intake(s). It determines the optimum dimensions and the total cost of the structure and performs stability analysis. It enables a design engineer to perform quick successive test runs to evaluate the various alternatives.
