Prediction of the Yield Stress and Mean Strain Hardening Modulus from a Ring Compression Test

Authors: Ali ÇOLAKOĞLU

Abstract: The large deformation of a tube compressed diametrically between rigid plates is described. Ring compression test which might enable one to account complex material behaviour into theoretical material modeling is introduced. Rings made of cold finished seamless mild steel (BS 3602-CFS360), seamless stainless steel (BS 1501-304 L), copper (BS 2871-C 106) in the as received and copper in the annealed condition are tested. The non-dimensional experimental load-deflection curves are obtained and compared with the theoretical plots. By the help of dimensionless parameters yield stress and mean straing hardening modulus of the tube materials are found.
