The Turbulent Flow around Surface Mounted Obstacles Immersed in Boundary Layer

Abstract: The flow field around the obstacles immersed in boundary layer has been investigated experimentally and numerically. The surface oil technique of flow visualization has been used to determine the length of the recirculation region. The mean and rms velocities have been measured around the obstacle using an anemometer with a hot film prob. The numerical prediction of turbulent flow around a two dimensional obstacle was obtained using the k-Î model of turbulence. Numerically calculated values of reattachment lengths are in good agreement with the values obtained from measurements and flow visualization.
