Abstract: Linear switched reluctance motors (LSRMs) have recently gained more popularity for propulsion drives. This paper contributes a certain design improvement to reduce the force ripple in LSRMs. By affixing a pole cap in the stator pole, the target is achieved. Finite element analysis has been carried out to predict the performance of the basic and proposed structures. Motor performances for different load conditions are simulated. The application of fast Fourier transform has been utilized to envisage the vibration frequencies. The experimental results are well correlated with the predicted results.
