Robust Determination of Negative Ion Drift Velocities in SF_6

Abstract: Unipolar continuity and Poisson’s equations are solved for negative-ion drift velocities in SF_6 for the pressure range 0.02-0.2 MPa and E/n range 60-600 Td using corona current-voltage characteristics obtained in a coaxial-cylindrical gap. The present method confirms square root dependence of high field drift velocity to E/n and the results are in good agreement with those measured in uniform field gaps.
