Abstract: Santolinoic acid (1), a new ursane-type triterpene was isolated from the chloroform soluble fraction of Salvia santolinifolia. Its structure was established as 2\alpha, 3\beta, 9\alpha-trihydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid on the basis of spectroscopic analysis, including high resolution mass spectroscopy, and 1- and 2-dimensional NMR techniques. The compound (1) showed inhibitory activity against the enzymes acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase.
