Abstract: The silkword (Bombyx mori) cell line has previously been described as semipermissive for the Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus (AcNPV). In this study, the early events in B. mori cells infected with AcNPV were examined. The electron-microscopic observations indicete that no nucleocapsids were observed in either the cytoplasm or nuclei of the infected cells. However, the infected cells manifested a good virogenic stroma. It was concluded that AcNPV DNA (not nucleocapsids) from the original viral inocula enters the B. mori cells and replication starts, but is not completed.
