Abstract: The cytogenetic effects of copper chloride on root tip cells of Vicia hirsuta were investigated. Seeds were treated with 10, 25, 50 and 100 mg/L of the copper chloride for 4, 12, 24 and 48 hours. It was found that copper chloride has a marked mitodepressive action on mitosis. Mitotic abnormalities were increased and the mitotic index was decreased depending on the concentration and duration time of the copper chloride applied.

Keywords: Copper chloride, Vicia hirsuta, mitotic cell division, chromosomal anomalies.
