Abstract: Thirty-eight alkalitolerant-mesophilic Streptomyces, defined by Saddler in his numerical taxonomic study, were evaluated by gas chromotography and pyrolysis mass spectrometry. Group I Streptomyces sp. AK409 and group II Streptomyces sp. AK029 selected duplicated strains were clustered in their own groups. It was observed that the results of gas chromatography and pyrolysis mass spectrometry was in good congruance with the numerical taxonomic results. Therefore, it can be concluded that the different chemotaxonomic methods provide rapid and reproducible information for classifying biotechnologically significant Streptomyces strains.
