Decolorization of Crystal Violet by Fungi and Commercial Horseradish Peroxidase

Authors: Özfer YEŞİLADA

Abstract: The decolorization of crystal violet which is a triphenylmethane dye by several fungi was investigated. Coriolus versicolor showed 92%, Funalia trogii 82%, Laetiporus sulphureus 86% and Phanerochaete chrysosporium ME446 62% dye decolorizing ability. Fungi, especially C. versicolor, possess high degree of decolorizing ability. Incubation of the dye with commercial horseradish peroxidase type II resulted in high degree of decolorization. A correlation between the rate of decolorization of the dye by fungi and enzyme was observed.
