Abstract: The effects of cadmium nitrate on the fecundity, larval survival and sex ratio of D. melanogaster were tested. According to our findings, the effects of cadmium nitrate can be summarized as follows: it appeared that when used as a feeding substance during the developmental period, cadmium nitrate did not have any effect on fecundity. On the other hand, if cadmium nitrate was given throughout adult life it caused a proportional decrease in the daily mean with increasing concentration. Furthermore, the larval survival ratio decreased due to the concentration of cadmium nitrate. Also cadmium nitrate application appeared to have no effect on the sex ratio of D. melanogaster.
