Abstract: In this study, the antimicrobial activity of essential oils of Abies nordmanniana (Stev) Mattf. (East Blacksea Fir), Abies bormüelleriana Mattf (Uludağ Fir), Abies equi-trojani (Aschers et Sint.) (Kazdağı Fir) ve Abies cilicica Carr. (Toros Fir) (Plantation Form) which were mainly forest tress and grown naturally in our country have been investigated. The essential oils were extracted from twigs with needle of these species by hydrodistillation for three hours. The discs were prepared by absorbing 6 and 1 0 L]g of the essential oil solutions and antimicrobial activities were examined on the Bacillus megaterium DSM 32, Klebsiella pneumoniae FMC 5, Pseudomonas aeruginosa DSM 50071, P. fleurescent FMC 24, Micrococcus Iuteus FMC 22, Bacillus cereus FMC 3, Escherischia coli ATCC 25922, Streptococcus sp. FMC 9, Staphylococcus aureus COWAN 1, Listeria monocytogenes SCOTr A, Enterobacter aerogenes CCM 2531 bacteria and Saccharomyces cerevisiae FMC 16. Four fir essential oil samples have shown antimicrobial effect against tested bacteria at different ratios. AII of the essential oils used in the study were not inhibited the growth of E. coli and the essential oils of Uludağ and Kazdağı fir were not inhibited the growth of the S. aureus and S. cerevisiae. While the Uludağ and Kazdağı fir essential oil showed the Iowest antimicrobial effect on the microorganism, the East Blacksea and Toros fir essential oils shown the highest antimicrobial activity. At the result, it is determined that, the antimicrobial activities of the essential oils against to the tested microorganisms could be varied depending on the ecological conditions, plantation form or natural form of plant.
