Abstract: [8-14C] inosine metabolism by Streptomyces yokosukanensis ATCC 25520, which is one of the producers of nebularine (a purine riboside antibiotic), was investigated in vitro. Inosine was shown not to be a precursor of nebularine (the conversion figure was around 0.29%), and most of the riboside presented (~ 80%) was metabolized along other metabolic routes. In this study fourteen [14C]-labelled purine bases, ribosides and ribotides were identified. They were; purine xathine, guanine, adenine, hypoxanthine, nebularine, xanthosine, guanosine, adenosine, inosine, AMP, IMP, GMP, and GDP.
