Abstract: The purpose of this study was to generate monthly areal rainfall depths in the Tarsus Plain using geostatistical techniques, and to determine the stochastic structure of areal rainfall series generated geostatistically. Data were obtained from rainfall observation stations located in the eastern Mediterranean region and the surrounding areas. Monthly spatial dependence structures of rainfall depths at the observed points were depicted using a spherical semivariogram model. The areal rainfall series was estimated using block kriging procedure. The trend, periodic and stochastic components of that series were tested statistically and modeled stochastically. Monthly areal rainfall depth-recurrence interval curves were developed for the Tarsus plain.
