Abstract: Boards of 18 mm and 12 mm thickness with a specific gravity of 0.70 g/cm^3 were used in this study. Some of these boards were coated with melamine-impregnated papers. The bending strength, modülus of elasticity, bonding strength, screw holding and formaldehyde emission of boards stored for, in turn, one day, one week, one month and three months were recorded during the experiments. It was concluded that coating with melamine impregnated papers improved the mechanical properties of particleboards and that formaldehyde emission was remarkably reduced. Board thickness was found to have an effect on all mechanical properties of particleboard except for bending strength and formaldehyde emission.
