Nitrogen-Sterility Relations on Paddy/Rice

Authors: Mithat N. GEVREK

Abstract: In this study the effect of increasing levels of nitrogen application on sterility percentage in paddy/rice grown as a second crop was investigated. According to average figures of two years, under Menemen ecological conditions, increasing rates nitrogen applications linearly decreased the number of fertile spikelets (Y= -1.05+1.28X). It is agreed that establishmet of low flower sterility at high nitrogen levels may become an important criteria in the selection of nitrogen responsive high yiealding varieties.
