Abstract: Wheat straw was pulped with 50 % aquous ethanol solution at varying reaction temperature and time according to Kleinert's original organosolv method and the effect of the reaction temperature and time was investigated. Experimental results showed that sufficient delignification and chemical defiberization did not occur at the 160 and 170¼C temperature level, whereas pulping temperature at 180¼C was more suitable. Increasing of reaction time in this temperature level influenced the delignification rate positively, but viscosity and strength properties of pulps dropped seriously. As a result, it was concluded that organosolv pulping process can be convenient to wheat straw for rapid and continious cooking operations.
